The Gray Matters Collective is a nonprofit organization founded in 2019 by Haley DeGreve in the Quad Cities region. Its mission is to promote mental health awareness and prevent suicide through education, community engagement, and advocacy.
The organization offers free presentations and basic training sessions to educate individuals on mental health topics. It also provides resources to connect those struggling with mental health issues to professional support and healing services.
Community involvement is a cornerstone of The Gray Matters Collective. The organization has established chapters in local high schools and colleges, such as Rock Island High School, where student leaders are trained to support their peers and foster open discussions about mental health.
In celebration of its six-year anniversary, The Gray Matters Collective is hosting a free event on May 17, 2025, featuring Kevin Hines, a renowned mental health advocate and suicide attempt survivor. The event will take place at Centennial Hall on Augustana College’s campus.
